Resolved Question: Starting a small business... Help needed with EIN and such...?

January 21, 2010 at 4:11 pm •

Hello. I am starting a tiny business. It is mainly buying and selling coins and currency. I sell at local auctions, eBay, and plan on starting a local auction of my possess. I have tried going through the IRS websites of what to do but that has left me scratching my head. I have a name in mind (has not been registered), have my website up and running... I do not have anything else. What do I need to do to register/trademark my name. Should I do that? Do I need that to receive an EIN / FTIN? What else should be done. Thanks for your help!

Voting Question: what is the most profitable everyday item to sell on ebay?

August 28, 2010 at 2:25 pm •

I need $cash$ ebay has a deal going now until 9/7 that every auction style listings are free to insert, you still have to pay the final value fee if it sells. It's been going on a while and I have tried seller a bunch of random things, clothing, shoes, books. I know I am not going to receive anywhere close what I paid back for them plus after ebay and paypal rape you on fees there is just no chance. I always end up selling a designer pair of shoes I paid $90 for $12 on ebay then ebay take like $1.20 and paypal take like $1 so in the end I receive $9.80. Just an example. I don't have anything great no antiques, art, coins and the like so what are people most successful selling on ebay when it comes to everyday items. I know I am going to take a loss but I'd rather be able to actually sell several items so the end result was worth the trouble.

Resolved Question: Are you checking your change?! And for how much would your sell your 20p coin?

July 4, 2009 at 12:40 pm •

London, July 4 (ANI): A punter was left ecstatic after he was handed out a rare undated 20p coin worth more than 7,000 pounds in change for his pint. Lloyd Hefferman had been with his friends at The Botolph Arms pub in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, when bar staff gave him the coin, which was amongst others mistakenly released by the Royal Mint in Cardiff last year. A handful of coins had already found takers on auction site eBay, with one fetching as much as 7,100 pounds recently. "I had heard about the rare 20 pence pieces on the news that day, and was talking with my mates about how brilliant it would be to find one," the Telegraph quoted Hefferman as saying. "When I was given my change I thought I would have a look to look if I had one, not expecting to find it and then I just couldn't believe my eyes. "I have had offers from friends and colleagues for up to 500 pounds, but won't be selling it yet." eanwhile, a spokesman for the Royal Mint also said: "Last year there was an unusual lapse in quality control at the Royal Mint. A batch of 20p coins were issued with mismatched sides. The result is a number of 20p coins have entered circulation without a date."

Resolved Question: Is there any good free photo editing software, That enable you to crop multiple images simultaniously?

April 27, 2009 at 7:59 pm •

I make a lot of ebay auctions, particuarly for coins, And making auctions for them can be a major hassle since both sides of the coin must be photographed. Doing one coin is easy enough, But often times i have to creat auctions for multiple coins, around 5 or 8, This means taking photographs of each side of each coin, And then having to go through the images, one, by one, by one, to crop the coin to fit the image. I use Kodak easy share since i've had it for decades, But its really difficult, boring, and time consuming having to crop and enhance each image indivudally. Is there another photo editing program that can crop and edit images simultaniously that does not cost a bundle? Thanks!

Resolved Question: Life long abuse from step dad of 20+ years and now cancer diagnosis means finding difficult to escape.?

August 7, 2010 at 12:41 pm •

My step dad (well he adopted me when I was 3 or 4, so in the UK legally he's now just my dad) has always been harsh on me for as long as I can remember. I'm 27 now and it hasn't been too much of a problem the last 5 years or so. He started to receive really bad when I was 15, he was locking me out the home every days, I never had a key and he would always tell my mum lies about things I had supposedly done wrong, like broken something, stolen something, just so she would go along with his discipline. I have a younger brother (my step dad's possess son with my mum) who is around 3 years younger than me and was always getting into serious trouble in secondary school (this was around 10 years ago now). My step dad never used to want to discipline him, even though my mum would be getting annoyed with him swearing and associating with unsavory types. In every honesty, I think a lot of the things that may have got broken around the home were either my brother or his mates. If I ever were to tell of my brother for breaking something, my step dad would always look really mad at me and usually would hit me when my mum wasn't around. Anyway, my brother eventually got excluded from school and had to attend a special school for delinquents. My step dad never wanted his family to hear of how my younger brother was getting into trouble and warned me not to tell anyone in case his mom or any of his family were to find out about it. By contrast, I did quite well at school and stayed on to do A-levels in maths, physics, IT and general studies. After 2 months of me starting my a levels, my step dad would be telling my mum that i only went to college for 3 hours a week and i needed to receive a job because i was lazy. In fact I was in class there 4 hours or more a day and struggling badly with 2 subjects. Basically, he ended up getting my mum to agree to locking me out from around 8am until as tardy as 9pm, even in the winter and he would still be claiming child benefits/tax credits and was keeping my EMA money that I got paid for being in further education. He would also use tactics like locking me out so that when I came back at night and food I had wasn't really edible because it was icy or would tell my mum I wouldn't eat it and not to make me anything. I was doing things like walking the streets aimlessly and picking up any coins I could find in order to buy cheap digestive biscuits or cream crackers. After nearly 2 years of this I inevitably failed every 4 of my a level subjects. I was really distraught by this and ended up going mad at him, because he was already feeding my mum the rubbish when I got home that night. I started shouting in front of my mum saying it was because they were locking me out etc. My mum had been exposed to every the rubbish my step dad had been telling her for so long, that even she was telling me it was because I was lazy and couldn't be bothered to do any work. I started another course at a different college the following year, in the wish of trying to receive into University. Unfortunately a similar thing happened. Since I was not really having any food and felt really hungry and unwell every the time, I started selling computer parts on a popular (at the time) auction site called qxl using the local library computers (I was still getting locked out the home every day etc). I managed to make about £30 or so a week, just for food, but I didn't really tell my parents what I was doing. Unfortunately, a 'pal' of mine took an interest and wanted to start doing similar things on ebay. I showed him where I would receive my parts from cheap and how to sell them on ebay. He told me he never had a bank account to take payments, so I let him use mine as he was letting me use his computer to sell my stuff it seemed reasonable. A few months later my bank accounts got frozen and a few days afterwards, I got arrested. It eventually turned out that some items that had been sold on ebay hadn't been delivered and the payments had been made into an account in my name, not only that but from ebay accounts set up with untrue names and address. I didnt tell the police I'd been letting this guy use my account, because I honestly didnt think it was anything to do with him, although I did mention it to him and he said he'd definitely been posting every the things he had been selling. The investigation continued. About a week after this, my step dad was talking his usual rubbish to my mum saying I had been scamming and I was out of control (which I thought was really wealthy considering his son that he never disciplines was really the one out of control). This guide to an argument and I was locked out the home permanently. I ended up sleeping in the local cemetery, because I didn't want to be found sleeping on the streets by the police in case I got into more trouble for not staying at the address they had for me. This went on for a few months and I was just surviving

Resolved Question: Can someone please help me identify this ancient coin?

August 25, 2010 at 12:51 pm •

I have a coin that is thousands of years old, this I do know. I bought 10 coins on an auction on eBay from a guy who is selling them uncleaned for $2.45 each. He says that they are un-inspected and I believe him because after a couple days of cleaning these coins I found a gold one. I have been ulsing the olive oil, distilled water and toothbrush method to clean this coin and so far so good. The gold coin has really caught my interest because I don't think I have ever seen a coin like this before. It has a square indentation on the bottom and a round indentation just about the square one. The relax of the coin is in pretty rough shape and its nearly impossible to make out any shapes or lettering. I am still in the process of removing thousands of years of encrustation and corrosion so I wish its clean enough to be identified. Here are some pictures I took. Side A http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u49/meadman718/Stuff/P1010006-1.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u49/meadman718/Stuff/P1010005-1.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u49/meadman718/Stuff/P1010010-1.jpg Side B http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u49/meadman718/Stuff/P1010007.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u49/meadman718/Stuff/P1010009-1.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u49/meadman718/Stuff/P1010008-1.jpg Thank you anyone who can help. The pictures really doesn't do this coin any. It is really difficult to make out the true colors but I am certain that it is gold. Gold doesn't tarnish however anything this old would have an encrustation on it. It is also a lot smaller than it appears. About 18mm in diameter Gold does encrust. In fact, gold coins that they find at the bottom of the ocean are so encrusted that they are in most cases fused together. I have also had it tested at a jewelers. They rubbed it on a black rock and put some nice of chemical on it. They Jeweler said that it didn't change color so it was real gold.

Resolved Question: How rare are these coins and how much are they worth?

January 9, 2010 at 12:19 pm •

I've looked on the Internet to crud results :L First one says on first side: ELIZABETH II D.G . REG . F . D . and is either side of the queens head who looks young and is wearing a tiara/crown. On the second side is a picture of The prince Of Wales and Lady Diana. The words circling them are: THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER . 1861 . H.R.H. This coin is bigger than a modern two pound coin. The second coin has a picture of George VI and the writing says: GEORGEIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX On the other side is a a shield I think and it says: HALF CROWN 1950 on the bottom and FID . . Voting Question: Is it against the rules of ebay to add unrelated words to your auction in order to drive additional traffic?

August 23, 2009 at 2:01 pm •

Is it against the rules of ebay to add unrelated words to your auction in order to steer additional traffic to your auction. I know that you are not able to place unrelated words in your auction title but how about in the auction description? My example would be if I was selling a collectors coin and below the basic description I places a batch of keywords that do and do not have anything to do with my item. I might place the word Ipod in the keywords because it is one of the largest searched for items on ebay right now. This would then make my auction show up in the title and description searches that someone does on the word Ipod. My goal would be to steer more traffic to my auction. I understand that this traffic would not be targeted because someone looking may not be interested in a collectable coin but it would potentiall gain me additional pag views and bidders. Thank you

Resolved Question: Ebay No-Return Policy?

October 12, 2009 at 6:31 pm •

I just opened a ebay coin store a few months ago. I made a few sales and things were going pretty well until the other day. I had a auction listed for 5 bags of unsearched wheat cents. Each bag contained approx 5000 coins per bag with the option of buying one or every five. The listing had a Buy it Now or make an offer option. The auction also stated that there is no guarantees to what coins you will receive and no returns. Now keep in mind i normally have a 7 day return policy, but due to the nature of this type of auction where one can easily cherry pick the coins they want and then send the relax back for a refund, i made it very clear NO RETURNS. Ok so here is what happened. A buyer e-mails me and says i look you have 5 bags for sale, are you able to list 4 more bags, i am interested in buying 9 bags which would be approx 45,000 wheat cents. He also says he has a paypal coupon for $2,700 that he needs use on one auction or he loses it. I tell him i can receive him 9 bags as long as the money clears it would be no problem, i also told him as stated in the auction there is no promises to what coins he will receive and there is no returns. He agrees. I re-list the auction to show 9 bags for sale instead of 5 so that he may bid accordingly. He then makes me a offer for 9 bags at $300.00 per bag for a total of $2,700. I accept the offer, he pays via paypal, money clears, i boat the coins . After receiving the coins he then e-mails me and says 2 things. (1st) You shorted me 1 bag which is B.S BTW (2nd) He says he went through 2 bags and he's not glad with the mix of coins he received. He then e-mails me again and says you better make this right or else. He then e-mails me again with a list of demands (which i won't receive into) or i am putting a claim in through paypal. I told him i will not meet his demands so do what you have to do. Sure enough i receive a e-mail from paypal saying he put a claim in for a refund. I gave them my side of the story and the case is pending. Will they actually take his side? I mean cmon don't sellers have rights too? Thank you in advance for every your thoughts and God Bless

Resolved Question: What is the value of an incorrectly minted 1975 Canadian 5 cent coin?

July 13, 2010 at 2:13 am •

I received a 5 cent 1975 Canadian coin as change. The coin has a minting flaw, such that the obverse and reverse are not properly aligned (the reverse is crooked by about 15 degrees). The reverse side also has a much higher-than-normal relief, suggesting an unintentional, high-pressure strike. Is this a known or rare flaw, and what are the auction and road values of the coin?

Resolved Question: Numismatists I need your help: I have a 1892-CC VF Morgan silver Dollar. Should I sell it now or wait?

June 15, 2010 at 11:25 am •

***ATTENTION -- THIS IS NOT A 'REPOST'. I mistakenly wrote an incorrect date on my previous question. The original post was completely edited. I was prompted to ask some additional questions. I greatly appreciate your help and respectfully request that you give consideration to the question below.**** I have an *uncleaned* *uncertified / ungraded* 1892 Carson City Morgan silver Dollar coin. I am not a professional coin grader, but I can say the coin is about VF-25 or VF-30. A few questions: 1) Should I keep the coin in my safe deposit box and sell it in say...10 - 20 years? 2) What is the current value for a 1892-CC VF Morgan silver Dollar coin like mine? 3) Is there a SIGNIFICANT upward trend in value for the 1892 Carson City Morgan Dollar? 4) If today is the right time to sell; do I sell it on an auction site such as eBay or sell it to an authorized coin dealer. 5) Should I have the coin graded and slabbed before I sell it. PCGS or ANACS? 6) Given the mint and the date, is this a 'key date' coin? I am not a numismatist, I only have a couple of coins that I keep for investment purposes only. Keep in mind that the coin has no sentimental value nor is part of a coin collection. I do not need the money right now or in the next ten years for that matter. I simply would like to know if I should keep it longer based SOLELY on its monetary value. Thank you in advance for your help. ** If possible, please use the same nomenclature to answer the questions. Thank so very much!

Resolved Question: What's the Best Way to Photograph Coins for Auction?

February 25, 2010 at 10:51 pm •

When taking close-up photos of coins to auction on eBay, what sort of 'jig' or fixed lighting setup do the best sellers use to create coin beauty shots? I am familiar with macro photography . . . so I guess my real question is what sort of 'jig' setup do the volume sellers use to receive the reflections and the sharp closeups just right, and consistently so? Do they use artificial light, BUT non-strobe lights? . . . I need to start taking lots of coin pics, so any clarification or suggestions are appreciated! . . . apart from scanners [which do surprisingly well] that is. Do some big coin dealers who sell 300 coins at a 3-day eBay auction—I mean what is their setup and process look like?

January 21, 2010 at 8:34 pm •

So I think I did something really dumb and think I'm in a loophole I cant gey out of. I had my startee pack and played with those players until i reached 3000 coins, without reading in depth about yhe contracts, and a lot of my players.contracts ran out so yhey became unavailable for me, which leaves me below many roster requirements to play again.nd since i dont have many coins left (9) I can't purchase a contract card or even bad players. I tried placing a player on the trading block and evrm discarding it but it says that by doing this would put me below the minimum allowed cards of this type. Idk if that means position or not because I signed 3 bad FS and tried pitting my good one on the auction block but it still said the same thing. If anyone has any idea on how i can start playing again this thatwould be great! And sorry for the bad wording im typing on my phone.

Resolved Question: What is this coin? 1870, from a Spanish-speaking country?

August 13, 2009 at 10:14 pm •

I recently inherited a bunch of old and foreign coins from my grandmother. The oldest is from 1870. It's bronze-colored, and about the size of a quarter. On one side there's a picture of a lion with the inscription "DOSCIENTAS DIEZAS EN KILOG" at the top and "CINCO CENTIMOS" at the bottom. The other side is too worn for me to read. Obviously it's from some Spanish-speaking country, but that could apply to Spain and most everything in South America. It's also pretty clear that this coin was worth 5 "Centimos". What I'm really asking is where it's from, plus (if possible) what it would be worth at an auction.

PCGS or ANACS? 7) Given the mint and the date, is this a 'key date' coin? I am not a numismatist, I only have a couple of coins that I keep for investment purposes ONLY. Keep in mind that the coin has no sentimental value nor is part of a coin collection. I do not need the money right now or in the next ten years for that matter. I simply would like to know if I should keep it longer based SOLELY on its monetary value. I GREATLY appreciate your help. Thank you. @curtisports2. I am truly sorry for 'reposting'. I mistakenly wrote an incorrect date on my previous question. The question was answered based on the assumption that the coin had a 1882 date. The coin that I possess has a 1892 (eighteen ninety-two) date. @every - I greatly appreciate your help and respectfully request that you give consideration to the question below

Resolved Question: What is the best method to ship coins to a buyer ?

February 10, 2010 at 8:17 pm •

I am thinking of selling some collectible coins (circulated wheat cents, mercury dimes, etc) on ebay auctions over the next few months. It seems "priority mail" might be too expensive and some vendors boat "First Class". Can anyone tell me the packaging I should use and how to go about doing this ? Thanks Oh, plan to accept Paypal as payment acceptance. Is that the right thing to do ? Thanks everyone.

Resolved Question: Where do I sell my Nazi memorabilia?

May 26, 2009 at 6:45 pm •

I possess a couple of Nazi memorabilia. Please don't conclude that I am a Nazi sympathizer- I'm not. I don't think collecting memorabilia will make you one of them. I collect coins and medals and any thing of historic values. I recently want to sell these two items but found that Ebay and Yahoo auctions ban them. This is nice of rediculious. Before you know it, they'll ban memorabilia from communist countries or anything from Cambodia bc of genocides. Any ideas where I could receive them appraise and sold? Any auction home you know of? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Resolved Question: Why does no one, including ivy league economists understand that the Federal Reserve is a blatant fraud?

September 7, 2009 at 8:48 am •

The constitution of virtually every country gives her the power to COIN MONEY (without "owing" it to anybody)...., and of course do so judiciously and coin just enough money to balance out the value of every goods and service, and serve as a token of trade. This avoids inflation. Now came international Jewish and British bankers in 1913 and convince the US Congress to "delegate" the constitutional power to "create" money to them, below a new institution called the "Federal Reserve Bank". They (the bankers) said that the best way to create money and avoid inflation was to issue "debt instruments" (Tbills, bonds) and offer them for sale at auction. So long as people buy them, there can be no inflation. (not a bad scheme, since it gives big recipients of money, such as insurance and utilities etc a place to park their money at interest.). The only catch is that such money is a DEBT, which must be paid back by the PEOPLE through taxes....., which is why the IRS was voted in, at the same time as the Fed system. The only purpose of the exercise is that those PRIVATE BANKERS receive a fat commission for running the Federal Reserve Bank...., billions upon billions. There is no need for "debt-based" money creation. The Treasury could create a National Bank and issue their possess money to loan out to people and businesses at very low interest and very long term. This is called a "credit-based" system. Only those who borrow money pay it back......, not the entire population through taxes. In a credit-based system there is no need for the IRS....., since the government incurs not debts. If every Nation in the world would do the same thing, then they could trade by establishing (by quarterly review) an exchange rate, based on the value of a basket of goods in each country. There would be no need for the current international monetary system, where only 8 countries out of 190 have "good money" and are allowed to exploit the remaining 182 countries with their so-called "difficult currency". every moneys could be created by fiat, and be as good as anybody's, so long as the exchange rates reflect parity of value. Wake up people. You have been bamboozled by private bankers since 1913. The fraud is so engrained in the educational system, that it is self-perpetrating...., with obedient little MBAs and economists being endoctrinated and churned out of colleges every year....., like the zombies of the private bankers.
